Mt Baldy Village Out and Back

For those not doing the CSDR this Saturday, or if you’re building up strength for next week’s Endurance Team Ride and lots of big rides this summer, come join us as we climb GMR and GRR to scenic Baldy Village. The highly ambitious can add the precipitous climb to the Ski Lifts above the Village, as well. The weather is expected to be perfect for this ride.

Our route starts from Encanto Park and crosses through Azusa to the base of Glendora Mountain Road. Our first regroup will be at the base of GRR at the Caryle Linder Equestrian Park, which has water and a bathroom. (Riders who want a shorter ride can start here, parking on E. Palm Dr.) At the GRR summit junction (the second regroup stop) we will continue up Glendora Ridge Road, snaking along the ridge line and climbing steadily, until the short, steep descent into My Baldy Village. Coffee, snacks, and meals can be purchased at Baldy Lodge in Mt Baldy.

The route back starts with a short steep climb, then sweeps down Glendora Ridge and Glendora Mountain. After a last spurt up The Wall, we’re back at Encanto.

Since days are getting longer, we are moving our starting time to 8:00 AM.

Start Time: 8:00 AM at Encanto Park in Duarte: (https://maps.app.goo.gl/cM5WLn9Un5b8osqV9)

Distance: ~57 miles

Weather Forecast: Excellent weather is forecast, starting around 60° in the morning, with possible marine layer, then rising to near 80° by afternoon. Up in Mt Baldy, the forecast high is only 63°, though, with bright sun, so bring a layer for the stop and the descent.
